Jamaica College Offers Fashion Design Degree

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica has received a total of $3.1 million grant to upgrade the school's fashion department. The department has recently begun offering a fashion design degree, and much of the new funding will go to revamp the buildings and flooring of the department and buy new sewing machines, cutting tables and mannequins for the school's fashion design students.
The $3.1 million grant was made possible by a partnership between the gaming company Supreme Ventures (SVL) and the Culture, Health, Arts, Sport and Education (CHASE) Fund. The CEO of the CHASE fund said that they believed the new infrastructure and degree programs would generate interest beyond Jamaica's shores, especially within the wider Caribbean. The school will be acting as an integral backdrop for the upcoming fashion design reality TV show Mission Catwalk.
